A novel about war and the shadow it casts even over generations who have never known it, but it is also is a novel about fiction.
Eagerly awaited “sequel” to Kate Atkinson’s “Life after Life” which relates the story of Edward, a bomber pilot in the 2nd World War, and brother of the enigmatic Ursula in the earlier novel.
The novel ends with a superb twist which will infuriate some readers but delight others.
I loved this book for its sympathetic portrayal of a reluctant hero, its engaging characters and humour – it left you really caring about what happened to them in spite of their flaws and defects.
My favourite book so far this year!
