Helen Dunmore is one of my favourite authors and Exposure does not disappoint.

Set in London in 1960, the Cold War is at its height and spy fever occupies the nation. When a highly sensitive file goes missing from the Admiralty, Simon Callington is accused of plotting with the Soviets and subsequently imprisoned.

Simon’s wife Lily and her 3 children are also in danger and she flees London to settle in the Kentish countryside. Lily however is unaware of Simon’s hidden secrets of the past which she must come to terms with if all is to end happily.

Empathetic characters and beautifully written.
