A very strange novel about a mother/daughter relationship with a difference. Sofia, a young anthropologist travels to Spain with her mother to see a famous consultant about the latter’s mysterious illnesses. But Doctor Gomez has some very strange methods as Sofia also confronts her own disappointing fledgling adulthood.
The author brilliantly conveys the angst of the mid-20’s in today’s society set against the background of a depressed Europe with austerity drives in force.
This novel, long listed for the Booker Prize in 2016 is both quirky and intriguing.
