The definition of a “siren” – women or creatures who lure seafarers into danger with their enchanting singing. This is a fascinating mixture of two stories involving sisters. One pair of sisters are sent as convicts to Australia, two hundred years before the story of the other sisters. The second pair of sisters have an uneasy relationship, and much of their story is their efforts to get to know each other. Add to this, a coastal town and cave that has claimed lives of sailors, the mystery of a baby’s birth in a cave, and the ever-present sounds of the sea and mystery voices.
This is an engrossing, troubling read, and I am glad that I could review it. Be prepared for a good read.
