Vianne, by Joanne Harris

Cover of Vianne, by Joanne Harris.

The main character is a girl. The girl’s mother believed in always moving on and had enormous fear that something bad would happen if she did not.

As a consequence, the girl was conditioned to feel the same. After her mother dies in New York, she decides to move to France and begins her own journey in Marseilles.

She manages to find work in a bistro and learns to cook. She discovers she has a natural talent for it, and her life begins to unfold in unexpected ways.

A delight to read, and a reminder that our conditioning has a big impact on our lives.
