That review applies very much to A Long Winter. The writing is so succinct it is hard to say more this exquisitely written story. A story of great sadness set within the boundaries of stoicism of the people who live in the harsh shadow of the Pyrenees. Every word is essential to the story and the reader suffers the cold, the anguish, and the inescapable duty of every member of the village. The reader becomes a member of the search party seeking, in the bleak, snow-driven mountains, the woman overcome by the hostile and bitter winter conditions and life.
