This is an exciting story about the race between the USSR and the USA to get the first human into space in the early 1960’s. There are interesting anecdotes and details behind the race and all of the players involved. However, it felt like it circled back several times and repeated itself on various points and got bogged down in too much detail in the middle. With a bit less detail, and repetition, as well as better editing, the book could have been a third shorter, and as such, would have delivered a stronger punch.
Overall, well researched, and an interesting read for those who like the subject.
