A very well written book based on comprehensive journals kept by the author on her journey to becoming a ‘frog,’ and intensive care paramedic (ICP). The training and workload of a paramedic are intensive, and the role requires dedication, commitment, and a sense of humour. Sally Gould takes the reader through this, at times, harrowing vocation with clarity, precision and attention to detail, necessary attributes for this work. She also shares with readers her own struggle with depression due to the stresses of the workplace. However, she emphasises the wonderful work ethics of her colleagues, in the majority of cases, and their positivity and camaraderie.
A very engrossing and enjoyable read which gives an insight into the professionalism of paramedics, their workload, and working conditions, and is a book everyone should read to increase the public’s understanding of, and commitment to paramedics.
