Creating a low maintenance food forest is a new idea. A different approach to gardening, it probably requires a 1/4-acre block or more, and ten years for biome development. There’s a detailed theory of horticulture and definitions at the start. The middle section outlines species suited to cool temperate (US), sub-tropical, Australia native and hybrid food gardens. Practical steps and lovely photographs show perennial trees; shrubs, herbaceous climbers, border ground covers, and root crops that can form a sustainable ecosystem which cools, improves air quality, and provides diversity.
It showcases many plants I didn’t know about but will try in the future.
