Library Staff Recommendation
The Twilight Saga books, from Twilight through to Breaking Dawn and Midnight Sun, are a series I believe are much better than the movies. While the films capture the main storyline, the books provide so much more detail into the characters, their relationships and, most importantly, their emotions.
One of the things I enjoyed most about the series is the way it explores themes such as friendship, grief, loneliness and love. These emotions are given much more depth in the books, allowing readers to understand why the characters behave and feel the way they do. The relationships between the characters, particularly their friendships and the challenges they face, are explored in ways that I feel the movies simply cannot capture.
The detailed descriptions and world-building also make this series a great introduction to Fantasy for readers who may not usually choose the genre. Although the books have a particular appeal and may not be for everyone, I believe there is something relatable in the characters’ emotions that many readers can connect with.
Overall, The Twilight Saga is a light, enjoyable and engaging read. Whether you are already a fan of the movies or are completely new to the series, I would recommend giving the books a chance. They offer much more detail, emotion and character development than the films and are a great way to discover the Fantasy genre.
