In 1939, Australia’s defence chiefs in Canberra faced the challenge of preparing an under-equipped nation for war. Initial concerns centered on Nazi Germany and the potential threat of German naval raiders targeting Indian Ocean convoys. Busselton emerged as a strategic location for reconnaissance aircraft to monitor sea lanes. Hangars, administration buildings and a radar station were constructed on Cape Naturaliste. Author Tim Blue explores the impact of World War II on Busselton, sharing recollections from local families and fighting men.
