At the Foot of the Cherry Tree, by Alli Parker

Cover of At the Foot of the Cherry Tree, by Alli Parker.

This is a thoroughly good read, loosely based on the life experiences of the writer’s grandfather and grandmother.

Cherry was a war bride from Japan. It’s their love story, their struggles to make Australia their home, and the real story of her grandfather challenging the impact of Australia’s White Australia Policy.

The book ends well and is a mostly unknown tale of those times.
